Patrick Bassett, Former Headmaster

In the early ’90s, Vogue magazine picked up the fact that Pomfret’s young women were required, like their male counterparts, to wear blazers when wearing slacks.

The article read: “Do clothes make the student? The powers that be at Pomfret School in Pomfret, CT, certainly think so. The dress code is a ‘defining distinction between us and some of our competitors,’ says Patrick F. Bassett, adding, ‘It seems I can now retire from headmastering, my professional life complete, probably the only headmaster ever to be quoted in Vogue.'”
